Does tax collected at source (TCS) apply to a Europe package?
Yes, if it is a bundled "overseas tour package". From 1 April 2026, the rate is a flat 2% TCS from the first rupee, with no minimum threshold.
This replaced the earlier two-tier structure (5% up to ₹7 lakh, 20% above it). TCS applies specifically to packages that bundle two or more of travel, accommodation and other tourism services; a standalone flight ticket bought directly from an airline or OTA does not attract it.

How long can an Indian passport holder stay in the Schengen area?
Up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, across all 29 Schengen states combined.
Enforcement is now automated through the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES), which began rolling out on 12 October 2025 and became fully operational on 10 April 2026, replacing manual passport stamping. Visa applications are still processed through centres such as VFS Global; ETIAS does not apply to Indian passport holders.

Is travel insurance compulsory for a Schengen visa?
Yes. A Schengen visa application requires travel medical insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000.
It must cover emergency medical treatment, hospitalisation and repatriation, including in case of death. This is a legal requirement under EU Regulation (EC) No. 810/2009 (the Schengen Visa Code), Article 15, not just an airline or agent recommendation.

Up to USD 250,000 per financial year under the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), without prior RBI approval.

Does a tour operator need a government licence in India?
No. There is no mandatory central licence; a private limited company or LLP with GST registration is enough to legally operate as a tour operator or travel agent in India.
Ministry of Tourism recognition is voluntary — it can help with credibility and supplier access, but is not required by law. Tour operators fall under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which gives customers a two-year window to file complaints.
